SA aviator patches

Yes, the name says it all folks, however this thread is really meant for you Sam, seeing as you're the graphics guru of the SA.

Unfortunately the rest of the SA does not have these, I'm the only one here with an aviator patch! (and I really need to work on mine some truth be told, it's a M$ Paint hack job at best) I'd like to change that though if some of you would so desire as part of your signature, since we all are pilots after all! However, I have basic graphic skills at best, aside from working in AutoCAD (vector based) whereas it's best to do stuff like this in raster based graphics programs. Also, it's a heckuva lot easier to find clip art or stuff off the net to incorporate into said patches and add what each person would want.

Anyway, this is just an idea I've juggled around with here recently, I'd enjoy some feedback from you guys and gals about this. Admiral, I'd also like to schedule some graphics lessons sometime if possible, I've got a full blown copy of Paint Shop Pro, but I've never really learned how to put it to use effectively. Learning to do so would also help take some of the load off you with the SA's graphics I'm sure as well. So let me know what you think, thanks!

i can help you out with your patch ORION ! it would be a first lesson for you to redo it in a more... -NOT MADE IN MS PAINT- way !

Yes! That's half the reason there Admiral, to add the pilot's wing designations... (to my own first of course ) I've already started recreating it in AutoCAD, but I'd much rather do it through Paint Shop Pro or some other nice high end raster graphics software.

Hmm... I might be able to help with this. I do know some stuff about photoshop. In fact, I've been working on something similar for myself, but I suck at art so I never really planned on publishing it or anything. Cool idea though!

Well... so far, my results of my AutoCAD re-drawing of the patch came out better than expected! Now I just gotta get the transparency working... Hell, maybe I'll just stick to what I know best, I'm definitely alot damn quicker in AutoCAD.

Hmm... If I send you an emblem/insignia basic thing, could you embellish it for a Nerainian insignia for Vemahk, Maverick, the future Denjin, and myself? Pretty please with cherry on top?

Wait wait wait! My hardware's being a bitch! I don't have the cooler looking version of the insignia I have in a format that I can send to you yet. It seems I don't have the right link cable... Damn TI... I can however send you the one that looks incredibly boring and the only purpose that it serves is to show you the basic shape without all the pixelyness that makes it look cool. I'll find that link cable though....

can you save the images as SVG files ORION ? If you do i'll be able to open them with GIMP and apply some gradient and depth to your patches !

And with Fud, come now, I redid the facepalm as a patch as a tribute to him! Besides, most aviator patches have to have a degree of sarcastic humor to them! Fud's is perfect! If I hadn't already made my own about a year ago, I'd do something similar with probably looney tunes characters with like Elmer Fudd as ORION or something simular! Anyway, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at I say!

(and it's saying you've done it for the past 14 years, which is about how long ago you were born ) Anyway, seriously let me know if you honestly like it or you want something else, I have no idea yet what to make for others except for you, so I took the liberty to do so.

Well, Fud's facepalm's don't really affect me except to get an "AAAUUUGGGHH!!!" response out of me, but physically, I'm fine!

I think my Aviator is great, But i'm not to sure about the brown with the green..... (Lol I'm only mucking about, It's great, So can I have it now?)

You can copy and paste the link of the image up above to your signature Fud if you want, however I'm going to try to remove the white portion soon, hopefully me and Sam can figure out a way to keep it high rez and use transparency.

No Michael, they are merely WIP examples at the moment, soon as I figure out how to effectively "transparent" the white area, I'll re-upload them.

Argh... Almost there, got the transparency working, but the color(purple) I'm using for the transparency is still somehow bleeding thru at the edge. *facepalm*

*UPDATE* I THINK I've found a solution! Hopefully this will work.
